Have you noticed Americans wearing red on Fridays? It’s called R.E.D. Friday and it stands for “Remember Everyone Deployed.” It was created as a way to help show support for the troops who are deployed.
Zionsville Professional Firefighters Local 4416 has partnered with Zionsville Fire Department to spear-head the R.E.D. initiative and to get all ZFD firefighters and staff wearing red on Fridays.
“The Zionsville Fire Department wants troops to know that we are thinking of them and appreciate their efforts in protecting our freedoms,” says Chief James VanGorder.
ZFD employees also have the option of voluntarily donating $2 on Fridays when wearing red shirts. This donated money will be used on a quarterly basis to send care packages to deployed military servicemen and servicewomen. Any community members wishing to donate to this cause can stop by any Zionsville Fire Station or ZFD Headquarters in Town Hall and drop off a donation in the red collection boxes.
ZFD will begin the program on Friday, Nov. 10 in honor of Veterans Day. ZFD is honored to have 12 current firefighters who have served or are serving in the United States military. The community is encouraged to join ZFD in supporting our troops by wearing red on Fridays.
