Zionsville Community High School student artist call out

Zionsville Community High Schools students are invited to participate in a contest to paint (or add graphics to) Zionsville's Walking Man sculpture. Walking Man is a 10' tall steel sculpture that the Community Foundation of Boone County gifted to communities in the county. Zionsville’s Walking Man is located at the outdoor plaza at Zionsville Town Hall, just off the Big-4 Rail Trail.

The Town of Zionsville invites individual artists or teams of individuals from ZCHS to submit a design for our Walking Man sculpture. While there is no specific theme, all designs should relate to Zionsville in a way the artist chooses. Please include a brief description/statement of the design and materials chosen.

All designs must be structurally sound and capable of withstanding outdoor display. Artists will be granted a stipend of up to $500 from the Town of Zionsville for necessary supplies (must provide all receipts). Paint and/or decals/graphics may be used. Artists can include their signatures into the design and, dependent on cost, a plaque with name(s).

The Town of Zionsville will work with the artist(s) to provide a space for painting.

All designs must be submitted by: Monday, April 16. Designs must be submitted on the full body outline (page one of accompanying PDF). Detail submission images are optional.

Send designs to:

Amanda Vela

Town of Zionsville

Or email submissions to: avela@zionsville-in.gov

The top designs will be chosen by public voting on social media. More details to come this spring. Note: if more than 5 designs are submitted, a panel of judges will first determine the top 5 that will be displayed for public voting.

Note: The Walking Man has been given an initial primer coat. A light sanding of the surface may be recommended prior to painting.
