The following are the rules and regulations for Open Burning within the Town of Zionsville and the State of Indiana as set forth in IAC 326 Article 4, and the Town of Zionsville Open Burning Ordinance.

- All fires shall be extinguished if they create a hazard, nuisance, pollution problem or threat to public health or property.
- Only clean wood products shall be burned; Leaves, grass or other misc. items will not be allowed.
- All fires shall be attended until completely extinguished with proper means available.
- All burning shall be done during daylight hours with the exception of cooking or camp fires. 
- All burning shall comply with all Federal, State and Local laws, rules and ordinances.
- All burning shall be done in a non-combustible container with an enclosed bottom and sides, and shall be required to have a mesh covering with openings no larger than ¼ “ square.
- All burning shall be done between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

 Any deviation from these rules and regulations shall require a variance and permit from the State of Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM).  A copy of this variance and permit shall be filed with the Fire Marshal prior to any such burning.  You may reach IDEM at 317-233-0178 or online at www.in.gov/idem
