Town of Zionsville celebrates National Bike Month with three events

May is National Bike Month and the Town of Zionsville is celebrating with three bicycling events: Family Fun Ride on May 11, Zionsville Bike Challenge from May 20 – June 30 and Bike to Market Day on May 25.

As a designated “Bronze Level” Bicycle Friendly Community (recognized by the League of American Bicyclists), the Town of Zionsville continues to invest in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies.

“The national acknowledgement as a Bicycle Friendly Community for two straight award cycles shows that Zionsville has been working for decades on such policies, programs and infrastructure. It’s an indication that Zionsville’s citizens and leaders firmly understand the value of cycling for fitness, fun, travel and bicycle tourism on a year-round basis, not only during National Bike Month,” said Parks & Recreation Superintendent Matt Dickey.

Family Fun Ride

On Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. – noon, join the Zionsville Parks & Recreation Department for the annual Bicycle Family Fun Ride at Elm Street Green. This recreational 7-mile bike ride will take cyclists through quiet streets, parks and trails. There is an optional 3-mile extension to Heritage Trail Park for those who want to stretch their legs. This event is co-sponsored by Gray Goat North Bicycle Shop.

Zionsville Bike Challenge

The Zionsville Bike Challenge, organized by the Zionsville Parks & Recreation Department and Zionsville Triathlon & Cycling Team, is a 6-week challenge that begins on Monday, May 20 and ends on Sunday, June 30. There are four levels to choose from: Just For Fun (ride for 90 minutes per week), 200 miles total (33 miles per week), 400 miles total (67 miles per week) and 600 miles total (100 miles per week). Participants can join the Zionsville Community Team or the Zionsville Triathlon and Cycling Team and can track mileage of rides and voluntarily submit results.
