1. How do I find out what day my trash/recycling is?

The Town's new trash/recycling provider is Priority. The new collection schedule for residents in the urban service district began on April 10, 2023. Your trash/recycling service day may have changed. If you have not yet received the mailer from Priority, you can view the digital mailer here. 

2. What if I am located in the rural service district?

You have your own private contract with a trash/recycling provider and your schedule remains as is. 

3. What are the new trash/recycle rates?

Town Council approved an ordinance establishing the trash/recycling fees with the new service provider, Priority. The rates are:

• Year One: $11.95 plus Boone County Solid Waste Management District Special Fee (.40 per household per month)
• Year Two: $12.21 plus Boone County Solid Waste Management District Special Fee (.40 per household per month)
• Year Three: $12.68 plus Boone County Solid Waste Management District Special Fee (.40 per household per month)

This is an increase from $9.90/month.

4. Are bags allowed outside of the trash cart?

Bags are currently allowed outside of the trash cart. Starting in June, Priority will provide residences with a new trash cart and ALL solid waste material must be contained in the trash cart to be collected. Bags outside of the cart (including yard waste bags) will not be collected after the beginning of June. This is because Priority will utilize automated trash trucks. More messaging related to this will come from the Town and in a flyer.

5. Until the June implementation of automated trash trucks, how many extra bags outside of the trash cart am I allowed?

We have been in communication with the Town’s new trash/recycling service provider, Priority. Priority is seeing large numbers of bags outside the cart, primarily with yard waste, in some areas. The Town and Priority ask that residents place a reasonable number of extra bags out that are manageable by collectors – 2 trash carts or the equivalent of 1 trash cart with 6 bags max, or 12 bags max should you NOT have a trash cart. Residences that exceed the limits defined earlier will be given a notice so they are aware of these limitations.

6. What if I have extra yard waste to dispose of?

DPW is currently running its bi-annual Brush and Limb Collection service for residents in the urban service district (https://www.zionsville-in.gov/151/Brush-and-Limb-Collection). Outside of this service, we advocate for residents to take their brush and limbs to GreenCycle. GreenCycle accepts the material for free to be composted.

Boone County Solid Waste Management District offers information about composting and yard waste. 

7. What changes in June with the implementation of automated only trash collection?

Initially, Priority will service and pick up bagged trash materials set out to the curb. Once you have received the trash cart on around the first week of June, material must be contained in the trash cart to be collected, nothing can be placed outside of the cart (this includes yard waste bags). Should you need another cart, one can be purchased directly from Priority at www.PriorityWaste.com or you can call 855-WASTE-65 (855-927-8365). 

8. When the new trash cart arrives in June, what happens with our old trash cart?

Priority will provide every home a new 95-gallon trash cart (delivered on or around the first week of June). During that time, the Town and Priority will share more information about what happens with your current cart.
